Warriors down Purple Eagles

CHEEKTOWAGA – Jumping out to a 21-0 lead, Cheektowaga went on to defeat Albion 34-20 this evening in a B-North Division contest.

Breaking away from a scoreless deadlock, Cheektowaga scored three quick second quarter touchdowns on a pair of short runs and a 38 yard pass completion for a commanding 21-0 lead as an Albion turnover on a fumbled snap set up the second score.

Albion answered with s 5 yard touchdown run by Ed Wolfe and an extra point kick by Mike Eldred just before half-time but 21-7 was as close as the Purple Eagles could get. A pass interception by Dominic DiCureia, who returned the ball some 40 yards to the Warriors 5 set up the opportunity.

Cheektowaga, which was led by Marshon Gibson’s 132 yards rushing and two touchdowns, got that one back with an unanswered touchdown in the third quarter.

Albion’s other two touchdowns came in the final quarter on an 11 yard run by Kollin Reynolds and a 3 yard run by Wolfe.

Quarterback John Warne completed a 14 yard pass to Des Blackmon on the first scoring drive. The duo also teamed up for completions of 18 and 10 yards on the second drive. Blackmon had a total of 7 catches for 131 yards.

Defensively, Wolfe was in on 13 takles as Reynolds and Brett Zicari were each in on 11 stops.

Albion is now 1-2 and Cheektowaga 2-1.

Amherst 34, Barker/Roy-Hart 20
AMHERST – Leading by a narrow 14-12 margin, Amherst used a pair of unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter to key a 34-20 B-North Division win over Barker/Roy-Hart this evening.

Barker/Roy-Hart grabbed a 6-0 first quarter lead on a 1 yard touchdown run by Brandon Lee Woods, a tally set up by runs of 23 and 10 yards by quarterback Jacob Haight.

A 34 yard touchdown pass from Andy Xapsos to Woods in the second quarter kept Barker/Roy-Hart within two at the break.

Amherst though pulled away with 14 unanswered third quarter points and then locked up the win with another tally in the fourth quarter.

Barker/Roy-Hart added a touchdown in the final quarter on a run by Tyler Childs.

The loss drops Barker/Roy-Hart to 0-3 while Amherst improves to 1-2.
