Warne to play baseball at GCC

Albion High senior John Warne signed a letter of commitment this afternoon to play baseball at Genesee Community College. Shown seated with John at the signing are his parents, CJ and Gail Warne. In back are Albion baseball Coach Bruce Blanchard, GCC Head Coach Skip Sherman, GCC Assistant Coach and former Albion Coach Gary Mannella and Neal Turney, who has coached Warne in the summer league. Warne,who will be in his fourth season as Albion’s starting catcher next spring, plans on majoring in Civil Engineering. He earned first team Niagara-Orleans All-League honors last spring hitting .429 in helping to lead the Purple Eagles to a second straight league title. “John is very committed to baseball,” said Mannella. “He’s got great defensive skills, a strong arm and a good bat. He’s a total player and he’s a very good student. He will be an asset to our program.”
