Vets nips Actives in pitchers dual

Pitching dominated for a rare double no hitter as Vets edged past Actives 1-0 this evening in an Albon Midget League playoff quarterfinal round contest at the Midget League Field.

Thomas Furmanski went the distance on the mound for Vets throwing a perfect game with 15 strikeouts and three infield groundouts, two of which were fielded by Furmaski.

Furmanski also accounted for the game’s only run in the fourth inning as he walked, stole second and came home on a fielders choice play off the bat of Quinten Soto-Thomas.

Amari Jones pitched the first four innings for Actives giving up no hits and striking out 7. Anthony Freeman came on to hurl the fifth frame giving up no hits with 2 strikeous.

The Actives defense turned a double play to get out of further trouble in the fourth inning from Caleb Fox to Freeman.

Vets will next face top seeded Barre in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Barre Town Park .
