VA sets Oct. 9 meeting for update on veterans cemetery in Pembroke
PEMBROKE – The VA National Cemetery Administration is holding a town hall meeting at 3 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the Pembroke Community Hall to provide updates about the proposed Western New York National Cemetery in Pembroke on Indian Falls Road.
The Department of Veterans Affairs has allocated $36 million for the cemetery, which will serve veterans in WNY. The closest veterans cemetery for the nearly 100,000 veterans in the Buffalo area is more than 100 miles away in Bath, Steuben County.
James Metcalfe, WNY National Cemetery Director, will provide an update on the status of the cemetery being built in Pembroke. The town hall meeting is open to veterans and their families, veterans service organizations, government officials, media, other community partners and the public.
The Oct. 9 meeting will offer the opportunity to ask questions. Everyone interested in the Veterans Cemetery is encouraged to attend. Ample free parking is available at the Pembroke Community Hall, 116 East Main St., Corfu.
