Long time local diamond enthusiast Ed Urbanik of Lyndonville helped to hurl Team Victory to a championship in the Men’s Senior Baseball League Desert Classic Tournament in California this past weekend.

Urbanik threw a three hit shut out in the pool play round of the tourney to earn Team Victory a 17-0 win over Las Vegas.

Team Victory went 2-0-1 in pool play to earn the second seed. In the tie game, Team Victory faced former major league pitcher Troy Percival who retired in 2009 from the Tampa Bay Rays after pitching in 703 major league games.

Team Victory went on to defeat the California Hogs 6-2 in the semifinals.

The championship game then featured a marathon 18 inning pitching duel which saw Team Victory nip Agua Dulce 2-1.

Urbanik notes that MSBL Founder and President Steve Sigler, who watched the title contest, called it “the best championship game I have ever seen in any MSBL tournament.”
