Medina U14 Fillies win in extra innings

The Medina U14 Fillies rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to nip the WNY Rally 8-7 Monday to close out the Metro Girls Softball League regular season.

The Rally scored once in the top of the eighth but the Fillies answered right back as Brooklyn Brown drove in the tying and winning runs. A walk to Lacey Kenward and a hit by Camri King helped to load the bases to set up the opportunity.

Ryenn Oliver pitched 4 innings for the Fillies striking out 3 and Cora Payne got the win striking out 2 in the four innings she worked in the circle.

The Rally jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Fillies answered back with 4 in the home half of the frame as hits by Brandi Guild and Payne led the charge.

The Rally battled back to take a 6-4 lead after scoring 4 in the top of the fifth inning.

The Fillies retied the game at 6-6 in the sixth inning as King and Oliver both scored.

Both teams left runners stranded in the seventh setting the stage for the decisive eighth inning. The Fillies defense came up big in the top of the eighth as the Rally left a runner stranded at third base.

The Fillies finish the regular season at 5-7 and will begin playoff competition next week.

This weekend the Fillies will compete in the Mel Ott Tournament.
