Rebounding from a five run deficit, the Medina U14 Fillies rallied to nip the Sandlot Saints 9-8 in 8 innings Tuesday in a Metro Girls Softball League game at Vets Park.

Trailing 6-1, the Fillies bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning as a double by Micaela Erway singles by Grace Cook and Brandi Guild and a triple by Morgan Allis led the charge scoring 7 runs plating, Erway, Ashlee Howell, Erin Dunham, Tessa Boyce, Cook, Guild, and Brooklyn Brown.

Sandlot was able to tie the game at 8-8 by scoring single runs in the 6th and 7th.

The Fillies then got out of a jam in the top of the eighth on a double play by Howell and Camri King. Cora Payne had struck out the first batter.

Brooklyn Brown bangs out a hit for the Fillies.

Keeping the momentum, the Fillies then scored the game winning run in the home half of the eighth on a hit by Lacey Kenward which drove in Allis completing the comeback win.

Sandlot had scored 3 quick runs in the first inning and 2 more in the second for an early 5-0 lead.

In the circle, Kenward had 3 strikeouts in 4 innings, and Payne got the win striking out 6 Saints in her 4 inning of work.

“It was a hard fought game and our girls didn’t give up and were rewarded for all their hard work,” said Fillies Coach Matt Maynard.
