The Medina 12U Fillies rallied late to nip the Hamburg Extreme 8-7 Thursday to advance in the Metro Girls Softball League playoffs.

Trailing 7-5, the Fillies rallied to claim the victory by scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth inning on runs by Chloe Stinson, Grace Cook and Faithann Vanderwalker.

The Fillies then locked up the victory by retiring Hamburg in order in the top of the seventh on a strikeout by Lacey Kenward, a pop fly to Camri King and a grounder back to Kenward who threw to Brooklyn Brown at first advancing Medina to the semifinals.

Kenward finished with 10 strikeouts while on defense, King and Grace Cook also combined to throw two girls out at third.

At the plate, Tessa Boyce had 2 hits as Micaela Irway, Brown, King, Kenward, Cook, Stinson, Vanderwalker and Elle Gross each had 1.

The Fillies jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by scoring once in the first inning on a sacrifice by Carina Kingsbury and twice in the second on tallies by Brown and Kenward.

Hamburg briefly knotted the contest by scoring 3 times in the top of the fifth but the Fillies answered right back with a pair of runs in the home half of the fifth as Kingsbury and Gross both crossed the plate.

Hamburg briefly regained the lead for the last time at 7-5 in the top of the sixth but again the Fillies answered right back with three tallies in the bottom of the sixth to move back on top to stay as Stinson, Cook and Vanderwalker all scored.

The Fillies will next visit Clarence in the semifinals on Tuesday.
