Two Medina wrestlers place at state tourney

Both Medina wrestlers earned place finishes at the state Division 2 (small schools) wrestling championships which concluded today at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Gavin Ciarfella finished fourth and Dominick Callara 7th.

Ciarfella, who was seeded 8th, went 3-1 in the consolation bracket  today to place fourth. He opened with a 9-1 major decision win and then scored narrow decision wins of 3-2 and 2-1 to advance to the bout for third and fourth place. In that match he dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 4 seed Trey Kimball (Camden Section 3)  to finish the tournament with a 4-2 record.

Callara, who was seeded 5th, went 2-1 on the day in the consolation bracket to earn 7th place honors. He finished the tourney with a 3-2 record.
