Two Medina teams capture indoor soccer league playoff titles

Medina teams captured top honors Saturday in both the Junior and Senior Division playoffs of the Kenan Indoor Soccer League.

In the Junior Division, regular season champion Medina completed a perfect 10-0 season by defeating Wolfe’s Lumber Mill 10-2 in the title contest.

Elian Gonzalez scored 6 goals and Ethan Leonard 4 to spearhead the Medina offense.

Leonard scored 3 goals in the first half to help Medina build up a 4-1 lead. Gonzalez then netted 5 goals in the second half to put a lock on the win and the title.

In the Senior Division, regular season champion Medina 1 needed a pair of late goals to nip Learning Edge Tutoring 4-3 in the title game.

Trailing 3-2, Medina 1 rallied to first tie the game on a goal by Kayleigh Kuzma with 5:55 to go and then to score the game winner on a tally by Steven Anderson with 2:54 remaining.

Anderson and Max Owens also scored the first two goals for Medina 1.

Austin Owens made several key saves in goal late to help preserve the Medina 1 win and title.

Medina 1 finishes the season at 10-0.
