Two big early inning scoring bursts power Mustangs to win over Purple Eagles

Two big back-to-back early inning scoring bursts sparked Medina to a 17-2 win over rival Albion in a key Niagara-Orleans League baseball clash of unbeatens at Albion this afternoon.
Trailing 2-0, Medina took the lead for good by erupting for six runs in the second inning on a three-run double by Carter Woodworth, a two-run single by Aidan Papaj and an RBI single by Brody Fry. Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases to set up the threat.
The Mustangs quickly boosted the advantage to 12-2 by scoring six more runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run double by Carter Woodworth and RBI singles by Hadrian Batista and Tyler Kroening.
Medina tacked on three runs in the fourth inning as winning pitcher Preston Woodworth had an RBI single and Carter Woodworth an RBI sacrifice fly and two in the fifth frame on a two-run single by Brady Christiaansen.
Preston Woodworth finished with 3 hits and Papaj, Kroening and Carter Woodworth 2 each.
On the mound, Preston Woodworth allowed only 1 hit and struck out 6 over the five innings of the run rule contest.
Albion’s two runs came in the first inning on an error.
Medina is now 7-0 and Albion 5-1 in N-O action.
The Mustangs will now host the Purple Eagles in the second half of the home-and-home series at 4:45 p.m. Friday at Vets Park.
Barker 10, Wilson 9
Barker trimmed Wilson 10-9 in the other N-O contest to improve to 3-5.
Barker scored 3 runs in the sixth inning and 2 in the top of the seventh on an error and a sacrifice fly to build up a 10-5 lead.
Noah Sandolfini and Ireland Brady both had 2 hits for Barker.
Oakfield-Alabama 11, Lyndonville 0
Oakfield-Alabama scored 4 quick runs in the first inning and six more in the fourth to key an 11-0 win over Lyndonville in a Genesee Region League game.
