Two Albion grapplers capture Class B titles

Two Albion High wrestlers, senior Blake Aina and junior Preston Flugel, captured top honors at the Section VI Class B championships held today at Cheektowaga.

Aina captured the 152 lb. title with a 10-2 major decision win over Icar Simon of Olean. He advanced to the finals by scoring a pin of 1:15 in the quarterfinals and an 8-3 decision victory in the semis.

Flugel claimed the 132 lb. crown by decisioning Gavin Kulp of Olean 6-2 in the finals. He advanced with a pin of 1:06 in the quarterfinals and a narrow 2-0 win in the semis.

The Purple Eagles also had Ben Restivo earn third place honors at 182 lb. with a 4-3 decision win in the consolation finals. Donamic Farley added a fourth place finish at 195.

“The kids wrestled real well today,” said Coach Pat Uveino.

The Albion quartet now advances to the Section VI championship state qualifier meet.

The Purple Eagles finished fifth in the team standings.

Class C
Medina’s Colby Petrie placed second at 113 lb. in the Class C championships held at Falconer. He dropped a narrow 3-1 decision to Dalton Gardner of Fredonia in the title bout after scoring an 8-0 major decision win in the semis.

The Mustangs also had Travis Wiseman (99) and Da’John Brown (285) both earn fourth place finishes.

The Medina trio advances to the Section Vi championships.

Barker/Roy-Hart’s Brent Bachman captured the 126 lb. title with a 5-3 decision win over Giovani Russo of Fredonia. He advanced to the finals by scoring a pin of 3:12 in the quarterfinals and a 6-0 decision win in the semis.

Barker/Roy-Hart also had Nick Fazzolari place second at 195 lb. He scored a pin of 1:09 in the quarterfinals and a 11-2 major decision win in the semis before dropping a narrow 7-6 decision to Reid Griener of Akron in the title bout.
