The Tops Twins downed the Medina Teachers Association Yankees 16-8 this week to open the Medina Youth Baseball League season.

The Twins were led by the pitching effort of the trio of AJ Seefeldt (2 runs, 8 strikeouts in three innings), Alex Doval (2 runs, 5 strikeouts in two innings) and Chase Prest (three strikeouts in the final inning).

Offensively the Twins were sparked by Dawson Brown’s two-out, two-run single which keyed a three run first inning and Seefeldt’s triple off the top of the fence late in the game.

The Yankees did grab a brief 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Nathan Sherman and Brian Fry scored.

The Twins added two runs in both the second and third innings but the Yankees closed back to within 7-4 as Sherman and Fry both singled. However, the Twins broke the game open with five runs in the fourth.

Sherman later tripled, Fry had a two-run single and Austin Mosher and Ike Pace both plated runs in the sixth.

Sharing the pitching duties for the Yankees were Mosher, Sebastian Fisher, Sam Kingsbury, Sherman and Fry.
