Turnovers are costly to Silverbacks in C North Division loss at Cleve Hill
Three unanswered second quarter touchdowns, one on a kickoff return and two set up by fumble recoveries, keyed Cleveland Hill to a 56-14 win over visiting Roy-Hart/Barker/Lyndonville in a C North Division game this afternoon.
The visiting Silverbacks did grab an 8-6 lead to open the second quarter on a 16 yard touchdown run and two-point conversion carry by Wyatt Sherman. Aiden Mescall had runs of 13 and 12 yards and Sherman a pickup of 14 to highlight the drive.
However, it took Cleve Hill only seconds to regain the lead for good at 14-8 as Amarion Spivey returned the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown and Carter Masianka added the two-point conversion.
Two turnovers in RBL territory then proved very costly to the Silverbacks later in the quarter as Cleve Hill turned both into touchdowns. The first came on a 33 yard touchdown pass from Masianka to Doug Hunt and the second on an 11 yard TD run by Larry Burgin giving the Golden Eagles commanding 28-8 lead at the half.
Cleve Hill later turned two more fumble recoveries into touchdowns in the final quarter, first on a 4 yard run by Burgin and then on a 51 yard run with the recovered fumble by Tristan Pratt upping the Golden Eagles lead to 48-14.
The Silverbacks other touchdown came on a 51 yard pass from quarterback Trenton Muck to Braxton Crosby late in the third quarter.
The win pulls Cleve Hill into a tie with Akron for second place in the C North standings at 2-1 while RBL slips to 1-2 in the division.
