Tuesday is a huge day for area teams in diamond sectionals

No less than 10 area teams will be involved in quarterfinal or semifinal round sectional baseball and softball competition on Tuesday.

The defending champion and top seeded Lyndonville baseball team will face No. 4 Arkport in the Section V Class DD semifinals at Letchworth at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers, which have a school record 19-1 record, belted Avoca 16-2 in the quarterfinals while Arkport ousted No. 5 HAC by the nearly identical score of 17-2.

The defending champion and No. 3 seeded Lyndonville softball team will face Genesee Region League foe No. 2 Elba in the Class D1 semifinals at Brockport High School at 5 p.m. Elba upended rival Notre Dame in the quarterfinals while Lyndonville bested Hammondsport 8-2.

In the Section V Class CC baseball playoffs rivals Holley and Kendall have both advanced to the semifinals after scoring upset wins over high seeds over the weekend.

No. 8 Holley, which ousted top seeded Gananda 7-4 on Saturday, will face No. 4 Avon at LeRoy at 4:30 p.m. Avon topped No. 5 Caledonia-Mumford 5-1 in the quarterfinals.

No. 10 Kendall, which eliminated No. 2 East Rochester 8-0 on Friday, will face No. 3 Mynderse at Livonia at 4:30 p.m. Mynderse nipped No. 6 Bloomfield in the quarterfinals 1-0.

In Section VI baseball quarterfinal round action, No. 2 Albion will host No. 7 Maryvale in Class A2, No. 6 Medina will visit No. 3 Burgard in Class B1 and in Class B2 No. 4 Roy-Hart will host No. 12 Lackawanna and No. 3 Akron will entertain No. 6 JFK, all at 5 p.m..

In Section VI Class B softball competition No. 11 Roy-Hart will host No. 14 Tonawanda while in Class C No. 7 Barker will entertain No. 15 Maple Grove, both at 4:45 p.m.

Two Niagara-Orleans League make-up track meets are also scheduled for Tuesday as Medina visits Roy-Hart and Newfane faces Barker, both at 4:15 p.m.
