Trojans post key mat win over Tigers

A late rally fell just short as Lyndonville dropped a 44-36 decision to visiting Alexander this evening in a key title deciding Genesee Region League wrestling match.

Trailing by as much as 11 at 26-15, Lyndonville rallied back into a 36-32 lead after a pin in 1:17 by Chris McDonald (138), a one point (3-2) decision win by Dustin Joy (145) and sub minute pins of 42 seconds by Tom Follman (160) and of 21 seconds by Devon Joy (170).

However, Alexander answered back by taking the final two bouts on a third period pin by Derrick Busch (180) and a forfeit win at 195 to claim the win and the title.

Earlier in the match, the Trojans also got pins of 3:03 by Nick Young (99) and 42 seconds by Nick Gaiser (126) along with a 15-0 technical fall win by Dane Heberlein (113) to help build up the 26-15 lead.

Lyndonville got a pin of 1:03 by Tony Recco (120) and a 9-3 decision win by Jeff Gress Jr. (106) during that stretch to stay close.

Alexander finishes the G-R campaign at 4-1 and Lyndonville at 3-2.
