Trifecta of fall titles highlights Kendall’s year
It was a huge fall sports season for Kendall High as the Eagles captured the Genesee Region League boys soccer, girls soccer and Division II volleyball championships
The boys soccer squad claimed the G-R title with an 8-1-1 record as the quartet of Will Condo, Riley Iqbal, Mookie Nauden and Alex Sutphen earned G-R All-Star honors. Eagles mentor Brian Duffy was also named G-R Coach of the Year.
The Eagles earned the top seed for the Section V Class C1 playoffs and finished with a 14-2-1 record.
The girls soccer team went 12-1-2 to capture the G-R championship as the foursome of Nicole Browe, Kristen Jacob, Taylor ReQua and Maya Rutland all earned G-R All-Star honors. Eagles mentor Pam Beres also earned G-R Coach of the Year honors.
The Lady Eagles earned the top seed for the Section V Class CC playoffs and advanced to the finals where they lost a narrow 1-0 decision to Caledonia-Mumford finishing the season at 15-2-2.
The volleyball team went 9-5 to claim the G-R Division II title and earn a school best ever sixth seed for the Section V Class DDD playoffs. Senior Shauna Ricker earned G-R All-Star honors.
Putting together, a strong postseason run, the Kendall boys varsity basketball squad advanced to the Section V Class C 3 finals where the No. 5 seeded Eagles lost to No. 2 Clyde-Savannah. In route to the finals, the Eagles upset top seeded Naples in the semifinals.
Kendall was represented on the G-R All-Star team by Dan Kelly.
Three former long time coaches, Ben Gerbig, Dick Reynolds and Carol Brakenbury, were inducted into the Kendall High Athletic Hall of Fame joining 2012 inaugural member basketball legend Roosevelt Bouie.
