Tri County Yellow claims tourney title

Going 3-0-1, the host Tri County Midget Division Yellow team captured top honors at the David Bigelow Memorial Hockey Tournament this weekend at Brockport.

Tri County Yellow nipped rival Tri County Green 3-2 in the championship game this afternoon.

Trailing 2-1, Tri County Yellow tied the game in the second period on a goal by Patrick Ricker and later netted the game winner on a goal by John Pilon with just 1:45 to go in the third period.

The contest was tied 1-1 after one period as James Hapeman tallied for the Yellow team and Henry Schultz for the Green squad.

Tri County Green took a 2-1 lead in the second on a goal by Will Kennard but Tri County Yellow answered back with two unanswered tallies to claim the win and the tourney title.

The two teams had played to a 5-5 tie in Friday’s opening round contest.

Tri County Yellow built up a 5-1 lead in the second period after two goals by Ricker an one each by Nico Weber, Ian McGraw and Hapeman.

However, Tri County Green battled back to earn the tie as Schultz had a total of 4 goals and Carson Bader 1.

On Saturday, Tri County Yellow posted a 10-1 win over West Seneca.

Tri County jumped out to a 4-1 first period lead on goals by Cam Smith, Ricker, Ryan Wells and Pilon.

Second period goals by Zack Geitner, Pilon and Hapeman upped the lead to 7-1. Ricker then scored twice and Pilon once in the third to cap off the win.

Tri County then advanced to the title contest with a 6-0 win over Corning earlier today as Nick Ray earned the shutout in goal.

Tri County scored twice in each period as McGraw and Ricker tallied in the first, Geitner and Ricker in the second and Pilon and Wells in the third.

Improving to 26-3-3, Tri County Yellow will next compete in a season ending tournament in Rochester next weekend.
