Tourneys to highlight opening week for Albion, Medina, Roy-Hart/Barker wrestlers

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – ALBION: With new coach Mike Sanders at the helm the Albion varsity wrestling team is prepping to open the season at the Byron-Bergen Tournament on December 3. The Purple Eagles will also visit Byron-Bergen for a dual meet on Dec. 7 and participate in Lyndonville’s Fred Large Memorial Tournament on Dec. 10 before opening the Niagara-Orleans League season at defending champion Newfane on Dec. 15. Leading the Purple Eagles underclassmen dominated squad are, in front, junior Mason Lynch along with sophomores David Rosario and Alonzo Figueroa Fuentes. In back are the team’s only seniors Bryden McMurray, Andrew Uderitz and Shane Daniels. The Purple Eagles went 2-3 in N-O dual meet last season.

MEDINA: Anchored by this large group of varsity veterans, Medina is also getting set for a busy opening week. The Mustangs will take part in a tri-meet at Williamsville South on December 1 and  participate in the Byron-Bergen Tourney. Medina will then compete in the Fred Large Memorial Tournament before hosting Roy-Hart/Barker in the N-O opener on Dec. 14. The Mustangs veteran group includes, in front, Luke Duffina, Reece Senske, Trenton Morley, Liam Castricone, Corde Robinson and Conor Crandall. In back are Riley Tower, Luckas Grimes, Breydin McEwen-Miller, Austin Seefeldt, Brody Fry and Sawyer Kingsbury. Missing are Dominick Callara and Ethan Page. The Mustangs went 3-2 in N-O dual meets last year.

ROY-HART/BARKER: Leading the way for Roy-Hart/Barker’s squad is this group of sectional competition veterans. In front are sophomore Ronan Klug and freshman Luke Fay. In back are sophomore Dan Moore and seniors Jaeyden Robinson and Quinn Brown. R-H/Barker will compete in the Sweet Home Tournament on December 2 and 3 and the Fred Large Memorial Tournament on Dec. 10 before opening the N-O season at Medina on Dec. 14. R-H/Barker went 2-3 in N-O dual meets last season.
