Tornado watch issued for Orleans and region until 9 p.m.

A tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m. today for Orleans and 15 other counties in western and central New York.

Severe thunderstorms and high winds topping 60 miles per hour will hit the region this afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo said the tornado watch includes the following counties, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne, Wyoming, as well as the counties of Cayuga, Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego.

The Weather Service said to expect damage to trees and power lines.
