The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. for Orleans and 15 other counties.

In Western New York, the counties include Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne and Wyoming.

The tornado watch also includes Cayuga, Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties in Central New York.

A “Tornado Watch” is more of a precaution. If the Weather Service upgrades it to a tornado warning, people should take shelter immediately on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and away from windows which can shatter.
