Top three seeds win field hockey sectional openers

The top three seeds all scored home field shutout victories this afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class C field hockey playoffs.

Top seeded Niagara-Orleans League champion Akron blanked No. 8 Medina 5-0, No. 2 defending Class C champion Barker shutout No. 7 Holland 3-0 and No. 3 Wilson bested No. 6 rival Newfane 5-0.

In the other quarterfinal, No. 5 Eden nipped host No. 4 Roy-Hart 2-1.

The semifinals will now have Eden vs. Akron and Wilson vs. Barker next Wednesday at Amherst.

Akron 5, Medina 0
Emily Buckley scored two goals to lead the way for Akron which also got goals from Rachel Heim, Sarah Schultz and Lily Berghorn.

The Lady Tigers led 4-0 at the half.

Barker 3, Holland 0
Goals by Natalie Menz and Lydia Dewart in the first seven minutes ignited the Barker offense.

Erika Moeller scored the Lady Raiders other goal in the second half off an assist from Kelsie Engert.

Eden 2, Roy-Hart 1
Trailing 1-0, Eden rallied for two unanswered goals in the second half to nip Roy-Hart.

Angelia Ciarfella scored in the first half for Roy-Hart.

Wilson 5, Newfane 0
Madeline Mocarski scored two goals and Caitlyn Starck, Allisa Smith and Erin Boyle each netted one to lead Wilson past Newfane.

Wilson led 2-0 at the half.
