Tigers will host Fred Large Tourney Saturday
Wrestlers from 20 area schools will be competing in the annual Fred Large Memorial Tournament at Lyndonville on Saturday.
The tournament honors the memory of Fred Large who organized the Lyndonville wrestling program during the 1960’s and led the Tigers to a number of Genesee Region League and Section V titles.
Competition in the varsity and JV tourney is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
In addition to the host Tigers the tournament field will include Albion, Medina, Holley-Kendall, Roy-Hart/Barker, Akron, Wilson, Byron-Bergen, Brighton, CSAT, East Rochester, Kenmore West, Lockport, McQuaid, Niagara Falls, North Rose-Wolcott, Pavilion/York, Warsaw, Wayne and Williamson.
Along with honoring the memory of Fred Large, the tournament will also continue a special tradition of holding a Toy and Gift Card Drive to benefit inpatient families on the Oncology floor at Golisano’s Children’s Hospital in Rochester and to raise awareness of childhood cancer.
All toy, gift card and monetary donations made by fans attending the tournament will go directly to those needy families at Golisano’s.
The cause has a special meaning for Lyndonville Co-Coach Joey Suhr whose daughter was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in 2016.
