Staying in the thick of the race for a sectional playoff berth, Lyndonville bested host Elba 67-57 this evening in a Genesee Region League boys basketball game.

Nathan Dillenbeck led Lyndonville’s balanced attack with 23 as Noah Poler added 16, Russell Stephens 14, Casey Winiecki 11 and Trenton Muck 3.

Elba, which slips to 3-4, was led by Zach Marsceill with 18, CJ Gottler 16 and Jayden Hughes 11. Connor Scott added 7, Andrew Hare 3 and Jaykob Belluscio 2 for the Lancers.

Lyndonville jumped out to a 24-17 first quarter lead as Stephens had 9, including a three, and Dillenbeck 8, including a pair of threes.

Elba did slice the deficit to just two, 33-31, at the half but Lyndonville answered with a big 16-6 third period scoring edge to regain a 12 point, 49-37, advantage at the three-quarter mark. Poler spearheaded that uprising with 12 including a three.

The Lancers could get no closer than nine down the stretch as 9 points by Dillenbeck and 5 by Winiecki helped the Tigers put a lock on the victory

With only eight teams in each classification qualifying for the sectionals this year, Lyndonville entered the game deadlocked for the final two Class C2 spots with Byron-Bergen and Dundee all 4-3.

Now, making it three wins in the last four starts, Lyndonville improves to 5-3 heading into the final week of the regular season. Lyndonville will close out the G-R campaign by hosting Kendall on Monday and Oakfield-Alabama on Wednesday. The Tigers will then host Holley in a non league contest on Saturday.
