Tigers mat duo places second at sectionals

Lyndonville’s senior duo of Jeff Gress Jr. (126) and Dustin Hinckley (160) both earned second place honors at the Section V B2 (small schools) wrestling championships held today at SUNY Brockport.

The Tigers also had senior Dustin Joy (145) place third.

Gress opened with a 14-1 major decision win and a 16-11 decision victory before besting Troy Ludoph from Newark 10-1 in the semifinals. However he then dropped a 6-3 decision to Zach Flaitz from Canisteo-Greenwood in the finals.

Hinckley got off to a fast start scoring an 18-2 technical fall win and then a pin of 3:52 before decisioning Blake Wolfanger from Perry 15-9 in the semifinals. In the title bout he was pinned by Noah Grover from Warsaw in 5:02.

Joy rebounded from a semifinal loss to notch back to back pins in 3:53 and 3:03 to earn third place honors.

Section VI Championships

Albion junior Preston Flugel (132) and Medina freshmen Colby Petrie (113) both earned third place honors at the Secction VI B2 (small schools) wrestling championships held today at Salamanca.

Rebounding from semifinal round losses, Petrie and Flugel both scored a pair of wins to claim third place honors. Flugel first scored a pin of 3:45 and then a 4-3 decision win over Nick Saeger of Falconer while Petrie scored 6-1 decision win and then n 8-2 decision victory over Tyler Le of Cheektowaga to earn .

Albion senior Blake Aina (152) and Barker/Roy-Hart senior Brent Bachman (126) both placed fourth.
