Tigers have Section V wrestling champion

Lyndonville High senior Payton Grabowski captured the Division 2 172 lb. title at the Section V state qualifier wrestling tournament held today at SUNY Brockport.

Grabowski edged Alan Anthony of North Rose-Wolcott 7-6 in his championship bout to earn a berth in the upcoming state championship meet in Albany. He opened the competition with a second period pin and then posted a 12-0 major decision win in the quarterfinals and registered a second period fall in the semifinals.

Lyndonville’s Sebastian Temich placed second at 152 and has also qualified for the state championships. He scored a first period pin and a pair of decision wins to advance to the finals where he was pinned in 3:03 by Beau Zeh from Canisteo-Greenwood.

Holley-Kendall had Bruce Rasmusson place sixth at 118.

Medina has also advanced a wrestler to the state championships as Dominick Callara placed second at 110 at the Section VI Division 2 state qualifier at Lake Shore. He scored a second period pin and a decision win to advance to the finals where he dropped a narrow 5-3 decision to Kenji Walter from Southwestern.

The Mustangs also had Reece Senske place fourth at 102, Sawyer Kingsbury fifth at 215 and Brody Fry sixth at 189.

Roy-Hart/Barker had Quinn Brown place third at 152, Lucas Kimber 5th at 102 and Luke Fay sixth at 126.

The Niagara-Orleans League did have a trio of champions in Newfane’s Jakob Lucinski at 102 and Aidan Gillings at 132 and Wilson’s Jacob Stephenson at 160.
