Tiger grapplers down Purple Eagles

Taking 11 of 15 bouts, Lyndonville posted a 60-24 victory over host Albion this evening in a season opening non league wrestling match.

Pins by Jeff Gress Jr. (106), Cullen Heveron (120), Devon Joy (160) and Dawson Joy (195) highlighted the victory for Lyndonville.

Cade Aina (99) earned Albion’s only pin.

Lyndonville jumped out to an 18-0 lead at the outset as Chris McDonald (138) decisioned Blake Aina 5-3, Dustin Joy (145) decisioned Aaron Burnside 5-0, Tom Follman (152) won by forfeit and Devon Joy pinned Tyler Nashburn in 4:26.

A pin by Dawson Joy in 3:21 over Merlin Moyer and a forfeit win by Frank Carrisquilio then offset Albion forfeit wins by Israel Florintino (170) and Tim Burke (182) to keep the Tigers up 30-18.

Aina’s pin in 1:56 over Seth Heveron pulled Albion back to within six at 30-24 but the Purple Eagles would get no closer as Lyndonville took the final five bouts and the match.

The Tigers stretch run included the pins by Gress, over Preston Flugal in :39, and by Cullen Heveron, over Jordan Wolcott in 3:05, along with forfeit wins by Garren Bayne (113), Tony Recco (126) and Dustin Hinkley (132).

Lyndonville next competes in the Tonawanda Duals on Friday and Saturday while Albion visits Alexander on Wednesday in another non league match.
