Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Newfane High graduate Paige Emborsky, shown here driving the ball up court against Monroe defender Zorria West, hit three big threes in the decisive final quarter to help undefeated (20-0) Niagara County Community College edge past visiting Monroe County Community College 84-79 this evening. Shilah Parker also scored 12 and Cori Dickson 8 down the stretch as the Thunderwolves outscored the Tribunes 35-24 in the stanza to claim the win. Emborsky first hit back-to-back threes to help NCCC erase an 7 point (66-59) deficit early in the final period. Her final three knotted the contest at 75-75. Parker followed up with two free throws and Kenetria Redfern a layup to put the Thunderwolves back on top to stay at 79-77. Free throws by Redfern and Dickson then closed out NCCC’s first ever win over Monroe. NCCC led 31-29 at the half but trailed 55-49 at the three-quarter mark. Parker finished with 22, Redfern 18 and Emborsky and Dickson 17 each. Emborky also had 8 rebounds and 4 assists. West led MCCC with 19.
