Thunderstorms, strong winds in forecast for today

Orleans County and Western New York will get hit with thunderstorms and high winds today as a cold front moves in, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Orleans County should see showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m., then showers and a likely thunderstorm between 2 and 3 p.m. “Some storms could be severe, with damaging and heavy rain,” the Weather Service said.

A wind advisory is in effect from 2 to 8 p.m. for Orleans, Niagara, northern Erie and Genesee counties. Southwest winds will be 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts of 45 to 50 mph.

Today’s high will reach 84, but the temperatures will drop the next few days. Wednesday’s high will be 73, followed by highs of 67 on Thursday, 67 on Friday and 72 on Saturday.

These boats are docked Sunday evening at Captain’s Cove at the Bridges in Carlton.
