Tapestry cagers down Medina; Albion bows

Pulling away with a key late third period scoring surge, Tapestry went on to defeat host Medina 70-60 this evening in a non league boys basketball game.

Leading by a narrow one point, 38-37, margin midway through the third period, Tapestry closed the stanza with a 12-4 run and Medina would get no closer than nine after that. A three by Tariq Eubanks followed by layups off steals by Mike Towns and Eubanks ignited that surge which vaulted Tapestry out to a 50-41 lead at the three-quarter mark.

Keeping the momentum, Tapestry opened the final period with an 11-6 run capped off by a three by Anthony James to extend the advantage to 14, 61-47 with just under four minutes to play.

Eubanks finished with 23, James 17,  Emanuel Truehart 10 Towns 9.

Jalin Cooper took game high honors with 30 for Medina as Izaiah Rhim added 9, Brendan Luthart and Jorge Phillips 5, Mason Lewis 4, Alex Allis 3 and Trenton Jones and Nate Sherman 2.

Tapestry jumped out to a 15-8 first period lead but Medina cut the deficit to two, 15-13, at the outset of the second quarter after a pair of free throws and a three-point play off a layup by Cooper who had a total of 13 in the stanza.

The teams traded scores for most of the rest of the period as Tapestry maintained a six point, 34-28, lead at the break. James tallied 10, including a pair of threes, to lead the way during that stretch.

Medina came battling back by opening the second half with a 9-4 run, including 7 by Cooper, to slice the deficit to just one at 38-37.

However, Tapestry answer with the decisive 12-4 run to close the period and regain control.

Now at 0-3, Medina next opens defense of its Niagara-Orleans League title by hosting Albion at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Jumping out to a 22-4 first period lead, CG Finney went on to defeat host Albion 79-53 in a non league game.

Deyonci Farley scored 15, Kevin Hillman 10 and Liam Ward 8 for Albion which trailed 38-21 at the half.
