Surging Jr. Wilson 1 sweeps twin bill
After dropping their first game of the season, Jr. Wilson I has gone on to win 8 straight games, outscoring their opponents 167-49 in Women’s A League Softball play. Most recently, they won a double header over Medina VFW on Monday night, by scores of 22-4 and 11-8.
In the first game, Jr. Wilson I scored 6 runs in both the first and second innings, highlighted by doubles from both Jodi Zacher and Molly Huber, which gave Jr. Wilson I an early 12-2 lead. There were singles by Jaclyn Guzdek, Sara Flansburg, and Michele Crandall in the first inning as well.
Jr. Wilson I extended their lead in the fourth, scoring 9 runs on 6 hits, including a 3 run home run by Flansburg.
In the second game, VFW kept it close by scoring three runs in the 5th, making it 7-5. Jr. Wilson I would battle back and score three of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning on two walks and a double by Sami Johnson.
Crandall leads the team so far this season with 20 hits, while Flansburg and Zacher both have 17. Zacher leads the team in doubles with 5, followed by Guzdek and Arden Zavitz with 3. Jessica Rosenbeck and Flansburg have the only home runs for the team so far this season.
Jr. Wilson I next plays White Birch on July 22nd.
