465 National Grid customers without power

It’s windy with heavy rain this morning in Orleans County, and that has taken down at least two trees.

A tree has fallen on Marsh Creek Road in Carlton, between Point Breeze Road and Sawyer Road, and the tree is blocking the roadway as of 8:10 a.m. Another tree fell on Kenyonville Road in Gaines just before 8 a.m.

National Grid is reporting that 465 of its customers in Orleans County are without power with scattered outages. The biggest outage with about 150 Grid customers affected is the area near Route 18 in Carlton and Kendall, extending into Murray. National Grid estimates the power will be restored at 10:15 for those customers.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a special weather statement for Orleans, Niagara, Genesee, Chautauqua and Erie counties this morning due to the strong winds.

“As the steadier rain comes to an end this morning, southerly winds will dramatically pick up across the region,” the Weather Service said. “Winds started gusting over 40 mph across Niagara County before 8 a.m. and as we push towards 9 a.m., winds will pick up for much of the remainder of the Niagara Frontier and portions of the Southern Tier.”
