Strong start for Bombers in Upstate Shootout
The AnJo Bombers U16 team went 2-1 in the preliminary round of the Upstate Shootout Tournament today to earn the No. 1 seed in the Cal Ripken Jr. Bracket heading into Sunday’s competition
The Bombers first win came in dramatic fashion, a 2-1 walk-off victory over Rochester Cougars Elite 16U, on an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth by Zeke Callicutt.
The Bombers tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Karl Darling singled on a 2-1 count.
Joe Watson was on the pitcher’s mound for the Bombers. He went seven and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out eight.
AJ Seefeldt and Darling each collected two hits to lead the Bombers.
The Bombers also posted an 11-5 win over the Rush-Henrietta Renegades snapping a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning sparked by an RBI single by Seefeldt.
Darling got the start for the Bombers allowing 2 hits with 4 strikeouts in two and two-thirds innings. Addison Christ came on in relief going 3 1/3, fanning seven and allowing no runs.
Reed Albee and Christ both had two hits to lead the Bombers. Colin Fragale also ripped a double in the top of the sixth driving in two RBIs and scoring twice on the day. Mike DiCureia also drove in two.
