Strikers win Barker field hockey camp playoffs
Barker’s annual 6 week long summer Field Hockey 7 on 7 Team Camp wrapped up Monday as the Barker Strikers downed the Niagara County Field Hockey Club 4-2 in the playoff championship game.
Rachel Hurtgam scored 2 goals and Natalie Bruning and Emily Wagner each netted 1 to lead the Strikers.
Lena Fazzolari and Katrina Clare scored for Niagara County.
Courtney Hillman came up with 3 big saves to keep the winners on top after several penalty corner chances in the second half.
The score was 2-1 at halftime and Niagara County came out in the second half and dominated play, but just couldn’t score. While pressing to score the equalizer they got caught with about 7:00 minutes left and gave up an insurance goal. In a similar situation with about 5:00 to go they gave up the 4th goal before scoring their 2nd with under 2:00 minutes left
In the semifinals the Strikers blanked the Roy-Hart Rams 4-0 and Niagara County downed M ‘n N (Medina and Newfane) 6-3.
Hurtgam again scored a pair of goals for the Strikers as Bruning and Anna Bowerman both tallied once. Hillman earned the shutout in goal.
Clare scored 3 goals to lead Niagara Count as Fazzolari, Alexa Zglinicki and Keira Dalton each added one.
Nicole Leverentz scored 2 goals and Alissa Zwelling 1 for M ‘n N.
The regular season leading Barker Strikers were the No. 1 seed for the playoffs. Niagara County was the No. 2 seed while M ‘n N was No. 3 and the Roy-Hart Rams No. 4.
