It’s National Signing Day for high school football players across the nation and Albion High senior Steven Stauss has signed to accept a scholarship to play football at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa.

Stauss, a three-year two way starting lineman for the Purple Eagles, will major in Business with a concentration in Finance.

“Their business program is exactly what I wanted,” said Stauss. “Their coaches were great and I loved the campus. Everything about it seemed right for me.”

A two-time first team B-North Division All-Star and a second team All-Western New York honoree this past fall, Stauss had 78 tackles, three sacks and a fumble recovery for the Purple Eagles last fall.

He was also a finalist this past fall for the Trench Award, which honors Western New York’s top lineman
