State wrestling qualifiers on tap this weekend

Nearly 30 area wrestlers will be seeking top sectional honors and a berth in the state championships this weekend.

Albion will have four entrants and Medina and Barker/Roy-Hart three each at the Section VI Division 2 (small schools) state qualifier tournament Saturday at Niagara County Community College. Competiton is slated to get underway at 10:30 a.m. with the finals at 6:30 p.m.

Holley will have eight entrants, Lyndonville seven and Kendall four at the Section V Division 2 state qualifier at SUNY Brockport. Competition gets underway at 1:30 this afternoon and resumes at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with the finals slated for 4:30 p.m.

Albion will be represented at the Section VI qualifier by Aaron Burnside (138), Justyn Haines (160), Aaron Mulroy (182) and Kollin Reynolds (195); Medina by Brennen Callara (106), Joe Velez (113) and Charles Beach (182) and Barker/Roy-Hart by Brent Bachman (113), Cameron Swick (120) and James Brady (285).

Tony Recco (113), who captured Section V and state titles in 2012 but missed last year’s qualifier due to an injury, heads Lyndonville’s contingent to the Section V qualifier which also includes Jeff Gress Jr. (99), Garren Bayne (99), Dustin Joy (138), Alex Murphy (138), Devon Joy (145) and Tom Follman (152). Recco and Dustin Joy both captured Class B titles last weekend.

Holley is represented by Brandon Morrell (99), Nick Shenck (120), Dan Flanagan (126), Martin Beadle (138), Ryan Camacho (145), Kevin Avery (152), Lucas Silvis (220) and Austin Vroman (285).

The quartet of Paul Urquhart (99), Mason ReQua (145), Mark Washington (182) and Billy Miller (220) will represent Kendall.
