KNOWLESVLLE – State Assemblyman Steve Hawley, R-Batavia, welcomed two of his colleagues from the Assembly on a tour of Genesee and Orleans counties on Thursday.

Hawley led the two legislators – Michael Cusick (D-Staten Island) and Michael Fitzpatrick (R-Long Island) – on a tour of the Orleans County 4-H Fair. (Cusick is in center and Fitzpatrick is at left.)

Here they are looking at a photo exhibit by Bruce Landis, including photos of the grease pole climbing competition.

Hawley said he is trying to help his colleagues better understand rural issues and the lifestyle in an agricultural community.

The trio also visited Post Farms in Elba, the NYS Veterans Nursing Home in Batavia, O-AT-KA Milk Products in Batavia, and Oliver’s Candies in Batavia.

The group is pictured in front of the giant pie tin used to make a world-record pie at the fair in 1977.
