St. Mary’s upends Carlton to open Albion Midget League playoffs

No. 6 seed St. Mary’s won a back-and-forth battle against No. 3 Carlton 9-7 this evening in the quarterfinal round of the Albion Midget League playoffs.
Jayce Ashton pitched all six innings for St. Mary’s, striking out 14 Carlton hitters. He also ripped two doubles to bring home 2 runs.
Reuben Rivers had two 2-run doubles, giving him 4 RBIs. Zac Olles scored three runs for St. Mary’s, with Jonny Judd and Rivers each scoring twice to lead the attack.
Bryce Wilson ripped two home runs for Carlton, accounting for 4 runs.
Nate Olmstead also had a big two-run double for Carlton, and Declan McCue added an RBI triple. Jayden Allport also had two hits and scored two of the team’s runs.
St. Mary’s now faces Sandstone on Thursday. During the regular season, Sandstone won two of the three games.
