ALBION – The St. Mary’s Athletic Club is 5-2 in the Albion Midget League, its best start in many years.

The team won 8-4 on Thursday and also defeated the Vets on Tuesday.

The team is led by the pitching duo of Jack Kinter and Blake Preston. They each pitched three innings on Thursday, with Kinter striking out 5 hitters and Preston getting 6 Ks.

Kinter and Preston both had two hits. Mason Giattino had the biggest hit of the day with a long home run to left center that took a few short hops before going into the weeds at Sandstone Park. Giattino, the team’s catcher, had another hit on the day.

“A lot of kids are hitting the ball,” said Chris Kinter, the team’s head coach.

Carlton had a home run and two singles by Finn McCue. Dominic Jurs also hit a double.
