St. Mary’s, Barre, Sandstone score Midget wins

Photo by Tom Rivers: – Sawyer Braley rips a single in the game this past week against St. Mary’s. It was a close game with St. Mary’s winning, 9-8.

St. Mary’s, Barre and Sandstone all scored victories in Albion Midget League action this past week.

St. Mary’s nipped Carlton 9-8, Barre downed Vets 10-7 and Sandstone topped Rotary 7-2.

St. Mary’s 9, Carlton 8
Carlton jumped out to a 4 run lead in the top of the first, only to have St. Mary’s answer with four runs of their own. Carlton then scored 2 in the second, with St. Mary’s again responding with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Carlton scored twice in the fifth, and St. Mary’s came back with 3 runs to take the lead for the first time. Carlton threatened in the sixth, but Jack Kinter made a running catch and turned a double play to preserve the win.

Bryce Wilson led Carlton’s offense with a 2-run homer in the first. DeClan McCue had two hits, including a triple, and Jayden Allport ripped two singles.

Christian Swiercznski led the St. Mary’s offense with three hits. Jayce Ashton also had two hits, including the game-winning RBI to score Swiercznski. Reuben Rivers added 2 hits. Nick Radder got the win on the mound, pitching the final two innings.

St. Mary’s is now 1-1 on the season, and Carlton is 0-2.

Barre 10, Vets 7
Tyler Gibson was 3 for 3 with 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and picked up the save in the 7th inning  with 3 strikeouts to lead the way for Barre.

Josh Bovenzi, Jason Conn, Cade Wolcott and Jack Ludwick also all had hits and Cade Wolcott pitched 4 solid innings with 9 Ks giving up 1 run.

Bobby Dysard 2 HRs and a great defensive play to save runs in the 7th for Vets.

Adrian Kingdollar, Vinnie Molisoni all had singles and Breyer Dysard a triple.

Barre scored 4 runs in the third, 3 runs in the fourth and 3 runs in the fifth to take a 10-1 lead.

Vets scored 1 run in the fourth and 6 in the fifth.

Sandstone 7, Rotary 2
Jacob Hughson belted three-run home runs in both the second and fourth innings to lead the offense for Sandstone. Hughson also had a big day on the mound with 7 strikeouts and 9 putouts.

Caden Uderitz also had 2 hits and Caleb Fox and RBI triple for Sandstone.

Simon Ellison accounted for both of Rotary’s runs with an RBI triple and a home run.
