New track records set for Eagles and Rams

Schumacher set a new Eagles record of 125-3 in the Discus breaking the old mark of 124-5 by almost a foot. Ricker set a new Rams record of 10.8 in the 100 breaking the old mark of 10.9 set by Willie Cunningham. Ricker was also a double winner in the 100 and 200 at Saturday’s Holley Invitational. His teammate Zach Schultz won the 400 while Medina’s Aurora Owczarczak captured the 200.

Green gains in standings at Arizona tourney

Moving up in the standings, Medina’s Melanie Green fired a 2 under par 69 today in the third round of the Epson Tour’s Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf championship being held at Scottsdale.

Heading into Sunday’s final round, Green now has a 6 under par total of 207 and is just one shot out of third place and only two shots from second place.

She was as much as 8 under par after 13 holes today but then had to rebound from a double bogey on 14 and a bogey on 16 finishing strong with a birdie on 18, her fifth birdie of the day.

Green was tied for 15th heading into today after posting a 2 over round of 73 on Friday.

She opened the tourney with a strong 6 under par round of 65 on Thursday.

Albion, Barker score non league softball wins

Albion and Barker both scored home field non league softball wins today.

Albion scored a 15-4 win over Red Jacket which is coached by Albion graduate Jenn Knaak.

Albion took charge early erupting for 5 runs in the first inning as Lux Froman had two-run double and Alana Irvine an RBI single.

The Purple Eagles tacked on 7 runs in the second inning as Cami London had a two-run homer and Irvine a two-run single.

Barker edged Alexander 2-0 as Madyson Flint hurled a 3 hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Barker scored the game’s only two runs in the first inning on a single by Flint and a sacrifice fly by Elise Monaco.

Kendall ‘9’ sweeps twin bill from Attica

Improving to 13-1, Kendall swept to a Genesee Region League baseball doubleheader victory over visiting Attica by scores of 6-1 and 13-0 today.

Gavin Braun earned the shutout in the first  game scattering 3 hits and striking out 8.

Vinnie D’Agostino had 3 hits and Mikey Colucci 2 to lead the Eagles at the plate.

Vinnie D’Agostino had a two-run single to highlight a three run first inning and an RBI single during a five run third frame.

CJ D’Agostino picked up the win on the mound in the second game allowing 1 hit and striking out 12 over five and one-third innings. He also banged out three hits and Jonny Conte had two.

Barker 13, Perry 8
Trailing 8-4, Barker rallied for 9 runs in the sixth inning to down visiting Perry 13-8 in a non league game.

Two run singles by Tristen Garcia and Isaac Monaco highlighted Barker’s big rally.

Williamson 15, Lyndonville 5
Williamson scored in 5 of the 6 innings to down visiting Lyndonville 15-5 in a non league contest.

Lane Woodworth had 3 hits, including a double, and Colton Smith 2 for Lyndonville.

Wellsville hands Medina first diamond loss

Avenging an 8-3 loss in last year’s Class B Far West Regional, Wellsville downed Medina 4-1 in a non league baseball game at Vets Park this afternoon handing the Mustangs their first loss in 14 games.

Wellsville scored twice in the first inning on an error and twice in the third on a single by Trenton Green.

Aiden Cowburn went the distance on the mound for the Lions allowing only 2 hits and striking out 11.

Lukas Grimes likewise went the distance on the mound for the Mustangs giving up 5 hits and striking out 9.

Medina’s lone run came in the seventh inning on an error as another error and a single by Carter Woodworth set up the threat.

Vinny Gray had the Mustangs only other hit with a single in the sixth inning.

Wellsville is now 10-3 on the season and Medina 13-1.

Medina next visits Barker at 4:45 p.m. Monday in a Niagara-Orleans League game.

Medina stickmen bow in regular season finale

Jumping out to a 5-0 lead at the outset, Bloomfield/Honeoye went on to defeat Medina 12-5 in a non league lacrosse game at Vets Park this morning.

The contest was the regular season finale for Medina which trailed 5-1 at the end of the first period, 6-1 at the half and 11-2 after three quarters.

Cole Callard scored 2 goals as Lucius Wagner, Jake Dunn and Max Pilon each netted 1 for the Mustangs which finish the regular season with a 5-11 overall record.

The Section VI Class D playoffs are scheduled to begin on Friday.

Green makes the Epson Arizona tourney cut

Despite losing a bit of ground in the standings, Medina’s Melanie Green has made the cut at the Epson Tour’s Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Championship being held at Scottsville, Arizona.

Green fired a two over par round of 73 today to advance with a two round 4 under par total of 138.

She is currently tied for 15th as the tourney leader is 8 under par.

She opened the tournament on Thursday with a 6 under par round of 65.

Lady Rams edge Purple Eagles to clinch at least a tie for the N-O softball title

Clinching at least a tie for the league title, Roy-Hart nipped host Albion 8-7 in a key Niagara-Orleans softball game this evening.

The N-O title is the first since 2022 and the fourth in the last seven seasons for Roy-Hart which has now won 10 straight league games to improve to 10-1.

The Lady Rams will close out the N-O season on Monday against defending champion Barker which is now at 8-2 after shutting out Medina 12-0 this afternoon.

Roy-Hart can claim outright possession of the N-O title by scoring a win over Barker. Barker needs wins over both Roy-Hart and Wilson in a make-up game on Wednesday to claim a share of the title. Roy-Hart nipped Barker 2-1 in their earlier season meeting at Barker.

A five run fifth inning, which gave Roy-Hart an 8-3 lead, proved decisive for Roy-Hart. That uprising included a triple by Brooke Corser and singles by Hayley Hillburn, Millie Owens and Abby Fox.

Albion did rally for four runs in the seventh inning on a triple by Cami London, a double by Alana Irvine and singles by Kenzi Snook and Lux Froman but the comeback bid fell just short.

The loss drops Albion to 6-5 in N-O action.

Akron 14, Newfane 3
Madison Gates hit an inside the park home run to highlight Akron’s (3-7) 14-3 N-O win over Newfane (3-9).

Medina trims Lockport in lacrosse

Snapping a five game losing streak, Medina trimmed host Lockport 8-7  in an interdivisional lacrosse game this afternoon.

Cole Callard scored 4 goals, Gavin Dahlhaus 3 and Jake Dunn 1 for Medina which held leads of 4-2 after the first quarter, 7-4 at the half and 8-6 after three quarters.

The win also completes a home-amd-home season series sweep as the Mustangs also downed the Lions 11-6 earlier in the season at Vets Park.

Now at 5-10, Medina will close out the regular season by hosting Bloomfield in a non league game at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vets Park.

Albion and Barker score N-O tennis wins

Defending champion Albion downed Roy-Hart 4-1 and Barker blanked Medina 5-0 in Niagara-Orleans League tennis action this afternoon.

Leo Bolton and Landon Graybill scored singles wins for front-running Albion which improves to 8-1.

The duos of Oliver Beach – Jillian LeBaron and Kenadie Patten – Hanna Kumalac scored doubles wins for the Purple Eagles.

The team of Ella Martillotta and Emily Livergood scored a doubles win for Roy-Hart which is now 5-3.

Daniel Goodwin and Ryan Fisk posted singles wins for Barker which is now 5-4.

The Bulldogs also got doubles wins from the duos of Liz Sampson – Nick Heideman, Aurora Wass – Oscar Dergel and Ella Taylor – Cherish Potter.

Barker blanks Medina in N-O softball

Staying in the thick of the league title race, defending champion Barker downed visiting Medina 12-0 in a Niagara-Orleans softball game this afternoon.

Barker improves to 8-2 in N-O action to remain just a game behind front-running (9-1) Roy-Hart which is playing at Albion this evening.
Barker will face Roy-Hart on Monday and then close out the N-O season against Wilson on Wednesday.

Madyson Flint hurled a 1 hitter with 14 strikeouts in the circle for Barker.

Madelina Pavlock banged out 4 hits and Flint 3 to lead the way at the plate as Barker erupted for 5 runs in both the third and fifth inning.

The loss drops Medina to 0-10.

Lady Tigers win to go to 9-0 in G-R softball

Lyndonville bested host Kendall 7-1 this afternoon to remain undefeated at  9-0 in Genesee Region League softball action and improve to 11-1 overall.

Arnie Sturtevant hurled a 2 hitter with 8 strikeouts in the circle for the Lady Tigers.

Alexis Robinson had 3 hits, Brooke Robinson 2 including a double, Isabella Groves and RBI double and Elena Barry an RBI single to lead Lyndonville at the plate.

Alexander tops Holley
Alexander posted a doubleheader victory over Holley by scores of 8-3 and 11-1 in other G-R action.

Ali VanAmeron had 2 hits for Holley in the first game and Desire McCormack 2 in the second.

Mustangs complete sweep of Purple Eagles

Scoring early and often Medina romped to a 19-0 win over rival Albion in a Niagara-Orleans League baseball game at Vets Park this afternoon.

Setting the tone, Medina erupted for 5 quick runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Preston Woodworth, a bases loaded hit batter, a wild pitch and a two run error. A hit batter, a single by Brody Fry and a walk loaded the bases to set up the opportunity.

The Mustangs tacked on a pair of runs in the second inning on an error and an RBI double by Preston Woodworth before breaking the contest wide open with a 9 run scoring burst in the third inning.

Aidan Papaj had a two-run double, Preston Woodworth and Carter Woodworth RBI doubles, Tyler Kroening a two-run single and Vinny Gray an RBI single to highlight that uprising. Singles by Ryleigh Culver, Kolton Fletcher and Kroening set up the opportunity.

The Mustangs capped off the big afternoon with three runs in the fourth frame on an RBI single by Fletcher and a two-run error.

Preston Woodworth finished with 3 hits as Kroening, Gray, Papaj, Fletcher and Carter Woodworth each had 2.

Fry picked up the win on the mound allowing 1 hit and striking out 9 over three and two-thirds innings of work. Gray and Cam Fike then each pitched two-thirds of an inning with 1 strikeout apiece and no hits.

The victory completed a home-and-home series sweep on back to back days for the Mustangs which also downed the Purple Eagles 17-2 on Thursday.

Medina is now 8-0 in the league and 13-0 overall while Albion is 5-2 in N-O action.

The Mustangs next host Wellsville in a non league game at 2 p.m. Saturday. The contest will be a rematch of last year’s Class B Far West Regional which saw the Mustangs down the Lions.

Roy-Hart 5, Newfane 1
Roy-Hart evened its N-O record at 4-4 with a 5-1 win over Newfane which slips to 2-7.

Gavin Heideman and Sean Mettler combined to hurl a no hitter for the Rams. Heideman struck out 13 in five innings of work and Mettler fanned 2 in two innings on the mound.

At the plate, Mettler had 3 hits and Heideman and RJ Townsend 2 each.

Green is tied for second after the opening round of the Epson Tour tourney in Arizona

Getting off to a fast start, Medina’s Melanie Green is tied for second place after today’s opening round of the Epson Tour’s Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Championship at Scottsdale, Arizona.

Green fired a 6 under par round of 65 to be just one shot off the pace.

On the day she had 6 birdies and an eagle which offset two bogeys.

The tourney will continue on Friday.

Green is coming off an 8th place finish at the Epson Tour’s tourney at Las Vegas last weekend.

Albion sweeps Barker in N-O track meet

Albion scored a sweep over visiting Barker in a Niagara-Orleans League track meet this afternoon.

The defending champion Albion boys squad downed Barker 94-47 to stay unbeaten at 5-0.

The Albion girls evened their N-O record at 2-2-1 by besting Barker 72-64.

Tye Talbot was a triple winner in the 200, 400 and Pole Vault and Cencere Lowe a double winner in the 100 and Long Jump to lead the Albion boys.

Hanna Olles was a double winner for the Albion girls in the Long Jump and Pole Vault.

Shelby Dauphinee doubled in the 1500 and 3000 and Mikayla King in the 100 and 200 for Barker.

Tye Talbot had a memorable final track meet at home as a senior. He is shown winning the 200 meter race and the pole vault. He also won the 400 meter run and was a member of the winning 4 by 400 relay team.

Medina and Akron split
Medina split with Akron winning the boys meet 100-39 and losing the girls’ contest 113-28.

Gordon Young was a triple winner for the Medina boys in the 100, Long Jump and High Jump.

Madigan Regan doubled in the 800 and 1500 and Kylie Karmazyn in the 100 Hurdles and High Jump for the Akron girls.

Rivals Newfane and Wilson split
Newfane downed rival Wilson 74-67 in the boys meet as Naz Spencer doubled in the 200 and 400 and Khalil Golden in the Shotput and Discus as the Panthers improve to 5-0.

Jayden Ruble was a triple winner for Wilson in the 400 Hurdles, 1600 and 3200.

The girls meet was a clash of unbeatens as Wilson (4-0) downed Newfane (4-1) 80-61.

Marissa Schultz doubled in the Triple Jump and Pole Vault and Savannah Jones in the 100 and 200 for Wilson.

Sam Broecker doubled in the Shotput and Discus and Eden Hillman in the 1500 and 3000 for Newfane.

Mia Standish takes the baton from Loralei Gailie for the last leg of Albion’s winning 4 by 400 relay team against Barker today.
