Lady Eagles top Mustangs in softball

A big six run first inning sparked Kendall to an 11-4 win over visiting Medina in a non league softball game this afternoon.

A two-run single by winning pitcher Inez Stangler and a single by Maggie Zastrow highlighted the decisive first inning uprising for thr Lady Eagles.

Stangler, Zastrow, Alea Barrett and Ella Christ each finished with a pair of hits.

In the circle, Stangler allowed 4 hits and struck out 1.

In a Genesee Region League game Pembroke downed Holley 14-1.

Alexis VanAmeron had a home run for Holley.

Green grabs share of Epson tourney lead

Building on the momentum from Thursday’s red hot 5 under par round of 67, Medina’s Melanie Green fired a sizzling 8 under par round of 64 today to move into a share of the lead at the Epson Tour’s Copper Rock Championship in Utah.

Green registered 8 birdies on today’s round for a two day total of 13 under par 131 to move into first place for the first time on this her first full season on the Epson Pro Tour.

She started strong notching birdies on the 1st, 3rd and 5th holes. She tacked on three more birdies on the 8th, 10th and 11th holes before completing the outstanding round in strong fashion with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes.

Her round of 8 under was the best of the day.

Green is tied for first place with Hailee Cooper who posted a 4 under par round of 68. She was the leader going into today after opening with a 63 on Thursday.

The tournament will conclude on Saturday.

Medina romps in lacrosse sectional opener

Roaring out to a commanding 8-0 first quarter lead, No. 7 seed Medina went on to defeat No. 10 Tonawanda 17-2 in the opening round of the Section VI Class D lacrosse playoffs at Vets Park this afternoon.

Cole Callard scored 4 goals, Lucius Wagner 3 and Gavin Dahlhaus 1 in the opening quarter for the Mustangs.

The Medina advantage soarded to 14-0 at the half as Callard and Wagner both scored 2 goals in the second quarter as Dahlhaus and Max Pilon both netted 1.

Callard finished with 6 goals, Wagner 5 and Dahlhaus 2 as Pilon, Cam Kenward, Sawyer Lilleby and Braden Lewis each had 1.

Medina next visits No. 2 seed East Aurora in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. East Aurora blanked Medina 19-0 in an early season meeting.

Medina Unified basketball scores two wins

Strong start for Green at Epson Utah tourney

Off to a strong start, Medina’s Melanie Green posted a 5 under par round of 67 today in the opening round of the Epson Tour’s Copper Rock Championship in Utah.

Now 4 shots back of the leader, Green had 5 birdies and no bogeys on the day.

The tournament will continue on Friday and Saturday.

Medina to host lacrosse sectional opener

Seeded No. 7, Medina will host No. 10 Tonawanda in a Section VI Class D lacrosse opening round playoff game at Vets Park at 5 p.m. Friday.

The winner will then visit No. 2 East Aurora in the quarterfinals.

Medina, which went 3-7 in the division and 5-11 overall durinng the regular season, downed Tonawanda (0-10, 0-13) 13-4 in their divisional meeting.

Friday’s other Class D opener will have No. 9 Newfane (2-8, 2-9) at No. 8 Depew (2-7, 3-14) with the winner advancing to a quarterfinal meeting at No. 1 Gowanda.

Tigers earn 1st diamond win; Eagles top B-B

Rebounding from as much as a seven run deficit, Lyndonville rallied to earn its first baseball victory of the season in dramatic fashion this afternoon as the Tigers scored a walk off 10-9 non league victory over CG Finney.

A two-out RBI single by Cole Moyle plated the game winner for the Tigers which are now 1-12. That hit scored Colton Smith who had reached on a single and stole second.

Trailing by as much as 9-2, Lyndonville battled back into a 9-9 tie by scoring twice in the fourth inning on an error and a double by Jacob Pitcher, three times in the fifth on a double by Thomas Blake, a ground out and a passed ball and twice in the sixth on a two-run double by Lane Woodworth.

Quincey McClinsey and Pitcher shared the pitching duties combining to allow 6 hits and strikeout 8.

Kendall 7, Byron-Bergen 2
Kendall improved its Genesee Region League record to 11-0 (16-1 overall) with a 7-2 victory over Byron-Bergen.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead by scoring twice in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Colby Hughes and a single by Sammy Conte and twice in the second on a two-run single by Vinnie D’Agostino who had 2 hits on the day.

Vinnie D’Agostino and CJ D’Agostino combined for the win on the mound giving up 5 hits and striking out 7.

Softball wins for Lyndonville, Medina, Kendall

Lyndonville defeated Wilson 8-2 and Medina edged Maryvale 13-11 in non league softball games this afternoon.

In Genesee Region League action, Kendall downed Notre Dame 12-4 and Attica topped Holley 8-1.

Lyndonville 8, Wilson 2
Isabella Groves, Hannah Fox, winning pitcher Arnie Sturtevant and Addison Dillenbeck each had a pair of hits for Lyndonville in the 8-2 win over Wilson at Barker. Sturtevant’s hits included a double and triple as Fox and Dillenbeck both had doubles.

In the circle, Sturtevant scattered 5 hits and struck out 10.

The Lady Tigers got off to a fast start scoring 4 runs in the first inning.

Medina 13, Maryvale 11
Medina scored 7 runs in the fourth inning and 3 in both the first and third frames to edge Maryvale 13-11 at Vets Park.

Alexa Demmer had two doubles and 3 RBIs and Jenna Cecchini 2 hits for Medina as Sam Heschke registered 7 strikeouts in the circle.

Kendall 12, Notre Dame 4
Kendall evened its G-R record at 6-6 and its overall mark at 7-7 by downing Notre Dame 12-4.

Izzy D’Agostino, Teagan Shaw, Ella Christ and Alea Barrett each had a pair of hits for the Lady Eagles. D’Agostino and Shaw both drove in 3 runs.

Attica 8, Holley 1
Lexi Lujan had 2 hits and Natalie Foose an RBI single for Holley in the 8-1 loss to Attica.

Fast start powers Purple Eagles past Panthers

Erupting for six quick runs in the first inning, Albion went on to defeat visiting Newfane 11-4 this afternoon as the Purple Eagles move back into a share of second place in the Niagara-Orleans League baseball standings.

Albion is now tied with Akron at 7-3 for the runner-up spot. Ironically the Purple Eagles and Tigers will now close out the N-O season with a home and homes series at Albion on Friday and at Akron on Monday, both at 4:45 p.m.

The Purple Eagles run production in the decisive first inning came on a double by Nate Gibson, singles by Elliott Trapiss, Mason Snook and winning pitcher Seth Krenning. a sacrifice fly by Kaiden Froman and an error. Andrew Boyce, and Gavin Boyce also both had hits in the big frame.

Albion tacked on two runs in the fifth on an error an a single by Andrew Boyce and three in the sixth on a two-run double by Josh Schoeberlein and an RBI single by Krenning.

Andrew Boyce, Gibson, Gavin Boyce, Snook and Krenning each finished with a pair of hits.

Cameron Perry and Parker Swoope both had 2 hits, Noah Orens had a two-run single and Blake Palumbo an RBI double for Newfane which finishes the N-O season at 2-10.

Wilson girls end a long drought by topping Medina to claim N-O track title

Ending a 30 plus year long title drought, Wilson downed visiting Medina 108-33 this afternoon to capture the Niagara-Orleans League girls track championship for the first time since 1992.

Finishing with a perfect 6-0 record Wilson got individual event double win efforts from Marissa Schultz in the Triple Jump and Pole Vault, Colleen Cliff in the Shotput and Discus and Savannah Jones in the 100 and 200.

The Wilson boys completed the sweep by besting Medina 108-32 as Jayden Ruble was a triple winner in the 400 Hurdles, 1600 and 3200 and Ryan Hough doubled in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, Brock Lepsch in the Shotput and Discus and Aidan Neumann in the 100 and 200.

Albion retains N-O tennis title outright

Defending champion Albion claimed outright possession of a second straight Niagara-Orleans League tennis title by downing Barker 4-1 this afternoon in the season finale.

Leo Bolton and Landon Graybill scored singles wins for Albion which finishes the league season at 11-1.

The Purple Eagles also got doubles wins from the duos of Oliver Beach – Jillian LeBaron and Kenadie Paten – Hanna Kumalac.

Barker got a doubles win by the team of Oscar Dergel – Aurora Wass.

Roy-Hart 3, Newfane 2
Roy-Hart edged Newfane 3-2 as Kaylie Churchill and Maria Trombley scored singles wins and the duo of Raegan Kern – Abby Glyshaw posted a doubles victory.

Roy-Hart is now 7-4 and Newfane 0-10.

Barker rallies for late inning win to earn a share of the N-O softball title with Roy-Hart

Defending champion Barker rallied in the late innings to edge visiting Wilson 6-4 this afternoon and claim a share of a second straight Niagara-Orleans League softball championship.

Barker and Roy-Hart finish as N-O co-champions with identical 10-2 records.

Trailing 4-3, Barker rallied to take the lead for good by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run single by Madelina Pavlock followed by an RBI single by winning pitcher Madyson Flint. A single by Aine Davis and a double by Kaylee Stoll ignited the decisive two out rally which also included a single by Lexi Brazzell.

Wilson had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning on Wednesday on a home run by Ava Mielke before play was halted due to an injury. Barker got out of further trouble in that inning when play resumed this afternoon and then put together the game winning rally in the home half of the frame.

Earlier in the game, Wilson scored once in the first inning on a double by Mackenzie Hardy and twice in the fifth on a single by Emily Phillips and a double by Lucy Madan.

Barker also scored once in the third on a single by Flint and twice in the fourth on a two-run homer by Alina Riches.

Stoll and Flint both finished with 3 hits as Riches and Bazzell both had 2.

In the circle, Flint allowed 5 hits and struck out 12.

Kendall ‘9’ romps to 15th victory

Improving to 15-1 Kendall romped to a 12-0 run rule victory over Bishop Kearney this afternoon.

Kendall moved on top to stay with 4 quick runs in the first inning as Colby Hughes and Nic Cole both had RBI doubles and Sammy Conte an RBI single.

Hughes, Cole and Conte each finished with 4 hits.

Gavin Braun earned the win on the mound allowing 2 hits and striking out 8 in four innings of work.

Lady Tigers blank Lady Rams; Mustangs and Purple Eagles score non league wins

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Arnie Sturtevant hurled Lyndonville to a non league shutout win over Roy-Hart this afternoon.

All of the scoring took place in the first inning as Lyndonville downed visiting Roy-Hart 3-0 in a non league softball game this afternoon.

The Lady Tigers scored in the first inning on a two-run triple by Addison Dillenbeck and an error. A single by winning pitcher Arnie Sturtevant and a double by Brooke Robinson set up the opportunity.

Sturtevant, who also banged out a double at the plate, hurled a 1 hit shutout with 4 strikeouts in the circle.

Roy-Hart pitcher Abby Fox allowed 5 hits and struck out 6.

The Lady Tigers improve to 13-1 overall.

Albion 12, Notre Dame 3

Triples by Kenzi Snook, Alana Irvine and Lux Froman highlighted the attack for Albion in the 12-3 non league win over Notre Dame.

Froman had a total of 4 hits as Irvine and Kaitlyn Bennett both had 3 and Snook 2.

The Purple Eagles scored 4 runs in both the third and sixth innings and 3 in the fourth.

Medina 8, Holley 7

Medina trimmed host Holley 8-7 in a non league game as Savannah Jo Thompson had a home run, Lilah Class 2 hits and Eva Lacy had the game winning RBI on a fielders choice play in the sixth inning.

Alexis Lujan had two singles, a double and 2 RBIs and Skylar Gallagher a single, a double and 2 RBIs for Holley.

Sam Heschke had 7 strikeouts in the circle for Medina and Madison Bonacci 5 strikeouts for Holley.

Elba 4, Kendall 2

Elba nipped Kendall 4-2 in a Genesee Region League game as a two-run double by Madalyn Marks in the bottom of the sixth inning snapped a 2-2 tie.

Kendall had tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Ella Christ.

Barker vs. Wilson suspended

The Wilson at Barker Niagara-Orleans League game was suspended in the sixth inning due to an injury with Wilson leading 4-3.

The contest is scheduled to be resumed at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

 

Albion clinches tie for N-O tennis title

Defending champion Albion clinched at least a tie for the Niagara-Orleans League tennis championship with a 4-1 victory over Newfane.

The Purple Eagles inprove to 10-1 heading into Thursday’s league finale against Barker which downed Akron 3-2 to go to 6-5.

Leo Bolton and Landon Graybill scored singles victories for Albion which also got doubles wins from the teams of Oliver Beach – Jillian LeBaron and Bradyn Whittier – Donovan Braley.

Barker got singles wins from Daniel Goodwin and Ryan Fisk and by the doubles team of Oscar Dergel – Aurora Wass.
