SOMERSET – The Town of Somerset Planning Board last week approved two meteorological towers for Apex Clean Energy to measure wind strength and consistency in the town.

The towers will be 60 meters in height, just under 200 feet tall. They will be located 8746 Lake Rd. on land owned by Charles Lyndaker and at 7469 West Somerset Rd. on property owned by Barbara Eggert.

The met towers will be temporary, in place for up to 3 years.

Apex is proposing a 201-megawatt wind energy project, Lighthouse Wind, in Somerset and Yates.

“After well over a year of working on these applications in full cooperation with the landowners who will host these towers in Somerset, we’re pleased to have a final decision,” said Apex spokeswoman Cat Strumlauf. “We look forward to putting up the met towers and gathering additional meteorological data.”
