Somerset bows in Midget ‘A’ playoff final
Top seeded Orchard Park downed visiting Somerset 8-2 this afternoon in the Lockport Midget ‘A’ League playoff championship game.
Capitalizing on a rash of errors, Orchard Park rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take the lead for good by scoring 3 times in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Somerset had grabbed a 2-1 lead on a two-run triple by Dan Engert in the top of the fourth frame. A walk and a single by Chauncey McKee set up that opportunity.
Somerset also got the bases loaded with no outs in the second inning on singles by Jacob Hoffee and Eddie Wasnock and a walk but could not capitalize as a double play helped to wipe out the threat.
Hoffee went the distance on the mound scattering 4 hits and striking out 6.
Defensively, Preston Harris threw out three runners trying to steal from his catchers position.
Somerset played the last 3 innings with only 8 players after Wasnock had to leave the game after a collision at second base.
