Some undocumented immigrants commit heinous crimes
Editor:
Having moved here from Florida I had never had any opinion of migrant workers as I had never had any exposure to them. I remember the first time I saw a cabbage crop planted and harvested I was in awe of the back-breaking hard work displayed by these people. I agree that most of them, even the ones here illegally, are probably honest hard-working people.
But then two things happened that made me change the way I viewed the illegal immigration situation. The first was the murder of 15-year-old Katherine Sanchez of Albion who was raped then brutally murdered by her sister’s husband who was here in the country illegally. She was just a child with her whole life ahead of her.
The second was the murder of 45-year-old Kathleen Bynham who by all accounts was a kind and gentle soul who died after being repeatedly stabbed in the back in the Walmart parking lot in Albion. The illegal that was arrested for the crime had two outstanding arrest warrants at the time of Kathleen’s vicious murder. He had been previously arrested for assault and released on $2,000 bail.
I have read the letters to the editor where some have said that our country is made better by immigrants and how their grandparents came here to start new lives in this great country. But I think we can all agree that the world is not the same place it was when our grandparents came here to seek opportunity and start new lives.
I saw on the news that an illegal was arrested for the murder of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts. How many Katherine Sanchezs, Kathleen Bynhams, Kate Steinles and Mollie Tibbetts, just to name a few, do we need for people to see that illegal immigration is a problem.
For me, one is too many.
Respectfully,
