Soccer, volleyball sectionals take week’s spotlight

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Medina/Lyndonville’s Hayden Allis (19) and his Mustangs teammates will face Niagara-Orleans League rival Newfane on Thursday for the Section VI Class B-1 soccer championship.

Soccer sectional semifinal and title round action and volleyball quarterfinal round competition highlights the up coming week of local high school sports.

On the soccer field, the top seeded Kendall girls squad will take on No. 5 Marion in the Section V Class CC semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Webster Schroeder. The Lady Eagles bring a 14-1-2 record into the contest.

The Medina/Lyndonville boys squad will face Niagara-Orleans League rival Newfane for the Section VI Class B-1 title at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hamburg. Two N-O season match ups saw the teams tie 1-1 in overtime and Newfane post a 4-3 win in overtime. The Mustangs are 12-4-2 on the season.

In volleyball, No. 2 seed Albion hosts No. 7 Iroquois at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Section VI Class B playoffs. The winners advances to Friday’s semifinal round. In Class C quarterfinal action, Medina visits Southwestern and Roy-Hart travels to Eden at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

On the gridiron, Medina will host Wilson and Barker/Roy-Hart will entertain Newfane at Middleport, both at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Section VI Class C field hockey quarterfinals will feature a pair of all N-O match ups as No. 7 Medina visits No. 2 Akron and No. 1 Barker hosts No. 8 Roy-Hart at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
