Soccer semis next for Lady Eagles, Hawks

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Kendall’s Raine Oakley and Holley’s Patrick Bower and their Lady Eagle and Hawk teammates will be playing in the semifinals of the Section V playoffs on Wednesday.

Continuing title quests, the Kendall girls and Holley boys soccer squads will both be competing in the semifinal round of the Section V playoffs on Wednesday.

No. 5 seed Kendall will face a very familiar opponent in Genesee Region League foe top seeded Wheatland-Chili in the Class D1 semi at 6 p.m. at Caledonia-Mumford.

Wheatland-Chili, which is 15-1-1, defeated Kendall twice during the G-R season by scores of 3-0 and 5-0.

Kendall, which captured the Class CC titles the last two years, is 13-5 on the season.

The Lady Eagles advanced by blanking No. 4 Northstar 2-0 in the quarterfinals while W-C shutout No. 9 Naples 5-0.

No. 4 Holley will take on top seeded World of Inquiry of Rochester in the Class C1 semis at 5 p.m. at Spencerport.

The two teams last met in the sectionals in 2013 when World of Inquiry nipped Holley by a 1-0 margin in the second round.

Holley, which last captured a sectional title in 2010, is 13-2-3 on the season while World of Inquiry is 15-1-1.

Both teams advanced by scoring 1-0 quarterfinal wins, Holley over Geneseo and World of Inquiry over North Rose-Wolcott.

Volleyball Sectionals
Section VI Class B2 volleyball competition gets underway at 6 p.m. Wednesday with No. 9 Medina at No. 8 Tonawanda, No. 11 Lackawanna at No. 6 Roy-Hart and No. 12 Newfane at No. 5 Springville. In Class C1, No. 8 Wilson hosts No. 9 JFK.

No. 3 seed Albion will open Class B1 competition at home at 6 p.m. Friday against No. 6 Olean.

Section V volleyball playoffs begin on Thursday as No. 10 Lyndonville faces No. 7 Genesee Valley in Class D2 at 6:30 p.m. at Caledonia-Mumford with the victor visiting No. 2 Kendall on Saturday. In Class C1, No. 8 Holley hosts No. 9 Sodus at 6 p.m..

Field Hockey sectionals
The semifinals of the Section VI Class C field hockey playoffs will be held on Wednesday at Clarence with No. 5 Eden vs. No. 1 Akron at 5:30 p.m. and No. 3 Wilson vs. No. 2 Barker at 7:30 p.m.
