Soccer lineup changes for Tigers, Mustangs
When practice begins next month for the high school soccer soccer season both the Lyndonville and Medina squads will have a bit of a new look.
For the past four years Lyndonville has hosted a merged girls varsity soccer team with Medina competing in the Genesee Region League and Section V.
This coming season Medina will be returning to field its own team competing in the Niagara-Orleans League and Section VI. The Mustangs will be coached by Jeremy Leno who previously coached Medina’s boys JV team.
Lyndonville will again host a merged team but this time with Barker. It will compete in the G-R League and Section V. The Tigers will be coached by Lee Dillenbeck who has coached basketball and soccer at Lyndonville for many years.
Barker has had girls soccer for a number of years but was unable to field a varsity team last year due to insufficient number of players.
“It is a natural for us,” said Lyndonville Athletic Director Jim Zeliff. “It will be a benefit for both schools.”
Paul Zeppetella, who coached the Lyndonville/Medina team the last four years, has been named the new Kendall girls varsity coach.
For the past decade Medina has hosted a merged boys varsity soccer team with Lyndonville competing in the N-O League and Section VI.
This coming season both schools will be fielding their own teams.
Medina will continue to compete in the N-O League and Section VI. Lyndonville will return to competing in the G-R League and Section V as the Tigers did before the merger.
The Tigers will be coached by Joseph Smith who previously coached the Lyndonville boys JV team.
