Silverbacks nip Panthers in overtime

In an overtime thriller Roy-Hart/Barker/Lyndonville nipped Newfane 28-26 in a C North Division game this evening at Middleport.

Deadlocked at 20-20 at the end of regulation time, Newfane scored first in the overtime on a touchdown run by quarterback Nate Snow. However, the Panthers missed the two-point conversion attempt as Jacob Gould had a clutch interception for the Silverbacks.

The Silverbacks then pulled out the win as Lucas Drees scored on a 4 yard touchdown run and then added the decisive two-point conversion carry.

Newfane almost pulled out the win with a second to go in the fourth quarter but Dan Aquilina blocked the Panthers field goal attempt sending the contest into overtime. Aquilina led the Silverbacks in tackles with 10.

The Silverbacks trailed 14-12 at the half as Aiden Mescall scored on a 46 yard touchdown run and quarterback Trenton Muck tallied on a 1 yard TD carry. Mescall finished with a total of 164 yards rushing.

The Silverbacks went up 20-14 in the third quarter on a 4 yard touchdown run by Muck and a two-point conversion by Aquilina. However, the Panthers rallied back into a 20-20 on a touchdown run by Snow with two minutes to go.

Roy-Hart is now 1-1 in the division and 2-2 overall while Newfane is 0-3, 0-4.
