Silverbacks earn historic first victory; Falcons rally past Hawks to claim playoff berth
A pair of fourth quarter touchdowns earned Roy-Hart/Barker/Lyndonville its historic first victory as the Silverbacks closed out their inaugural 8 Man Division regular season with a 20-6 win over host South Seneca this evening.
Breaking away from a 6-6 deadlock, the Silverbacks moved on top to stay as Rodney Davis recovered a fumble in the endzone and also added the two-point conversion for a 14-6 lead.Long runs by quarterback Aidan Mescall and running back Drew Sandolfini set up the TD.
The Silverbacks defense then came up with a big sack by Mikey Burrows to force a South Seneca punt.
The Silverbacks offense was quick to capitalize on the possession by added a big insurance touchdown on a short run by Sandolfini. Davis had a 20 yard run to help set up the tally.
The Silverbacks then closed out the win as Branden Allen recovered the ensuing on side kick.
Davis also scored the Silverbacks first score of the evening on a 3 yard run in the first quarter, a tally set up by a long run by Mescall.
The contest was deadlocked at 6-6 at the half.
Roy-Hart/Barker/Lyndonvilel finishes the regular season at 1-4 and South Seneca at 0-5.
CG Finney 40, Holley 20
CG Finney bested visiting Holley 40-20 to clinch the fourth and final sectional playoff berth.
Holley led 8-6 at the half on a 10 yard touchdown run and two-point conversion carry by Jacob Affronti.
However, Finney used a 22-6 third quarter scoring edge to rally into a 28-14 lead heading into the final quarter.
Holley’s other touchdowns came on a 55 yard pass reception by Affronti and a 1 yard run by Charlie Turpyn.
Finney finishes the regular season at 3-2 and Holley at 1-4.
